Thanks to Joe Abercrombie, we've got a look at the new cover for Before they are Hanged, the second volume of his First Law Trilogy. For those folks, and any old-timers who require a refresher, a tiny primer: the Bath-bound family man made his name less than a decade ago with the opening volume of The First Law. In a round of covers 3 weeks ago, I posted some artwork for the Subterranean Press limited edition of Before They Are Hanged, book 2 of the First Law trilogy by Joe Abercrombie. I am a newcomer to Joe Abercrombie's First Law series. My review of The Blade Itself, the first book in this trilogy, was one of the more vicious reviews I've written. So in “The Blade Itself”, many characters are introduced that seem like walking Other than that, “Before They Are Hanged” really comes down to two things: 1) characters and 2) the story. The first book in The First Law trilogy was brilliantly written and thoroughly enjoyable, however it is fair to say that not a lot happened. The final thread, which is really made up of two that are connected fairly quickly, features a handful of Northmen who used to follow Logen (they believe he is dead), and also newly- promoted Colonel West and a battalion of the army sent to prevent Bethod's In the second half of The Blade Itself it sometimes felt a little heavy-handed, but in Before They Are Hanged, I think it's better woven into the story.
